A quick story for you… Over the years, I’ve watched nutrition trends come and go. Low carb, high fat, no fat, fasting, you name it. And for a while, I got pulled into the idea that as long as something was “healthy,” I didn’t really need to think twice about it.

For me, that looked like a constant stash of nuts in my car. Busy day? Grab a handful. Need a snack? Nuts. They felt like a great choice because they do contain protein, but most of their calories come from fat. And while fat isn’t bad, those handfuls added up quickly.

Over the last 6–8 months, I started paying closer attention, not just to what I was eating, but how much.

And here’s what I realized: even “healthy” foods still count. When I became more mindful of my fat intake and started building more balanced snacks (especially adding more protein), everything started to click. I leaned out a bit, felt better in my body, and had more consistent energy.

Because at the end of the day, this still matters: Calories in vs. calories out is science. Not trendy, not flashy, just TRUE.

Here are a couple of simple swaps that made a big difference for me:

1 tbsp mayonnaise: ~100 calories, 11g fat, 0g protein
replaced with
1 tbsp non-fat Greek yogurt: ~10 calories, 0g fat, 2g protein

Small swap…big impact.

1/2 cup mixed nuts: ~400 calories, 35g fat, 10g protein
replaced with
Chicken/turkey stick + apple: ~180–220 calories, 2-5g fat, 10–12g protein

Same idea: more balance, fewer calories, more protein. I’m not saying fats are “bad”- they’re not.  But they’re easy to overeat, and they add up quickly.

A simple action step for you this week:
Take one day and just notice…
How much protein are you getting?
How much fat are you getting?
