I was listening to a podcast last week with Arthur Brooks and Rhonda Patrick, and within a few minutes I paused it, sent it to our family group chat, and said… this is mandatory listening.👊

They talked about what he calls the “macronutrients of happiness.” And the idea is simple… just like with nutrition, you can’t thrive on only one thing.

There are three:

Enjoyment

Not pleasure, actual shared experiences. Laughter. Connection. The kind of moments you actually remember.

Satisfaction

Working toward something that matters. Effort. Progress. That feeling of earning it.

Meaning

Being connected to something bigger than yourself. Love. Purpose. Serving others.

And as I sat with it, I realized… this is exactly what we’re trying to create at MOVE + breathe.

Not just workouts. Not just checking a box.

A place where you can: move your body in a way that challenges you (satisfaction)

be surrounded by people you enjoy being around (enjoyment)

and feel like you’re doing something that actually matters for your life (meaning)

Because the truth is… if we lean too hard into just one of those, things start to feel off.

All pleasure with no effort? It feels empty.

All grind with no joy? Burnout.

All purpose with no lightness? Heavy.

But when you start to balance all three… that’s where things feel really good.

That’s the sweet spot. Something to think about this week…

Where are you getting each of these in your life right now?

And where might you need a little more?

Also a little homework, check out the podcast yourself! I would love to hear what you think about it.
