Molly MacLachlan, RYT 200

Molly is originally from Huntington, West Virginia where she grew up dancing and performing classical ballet and modern/contemporary dance for many years (she still dances and performs when she has the chance), eventually also teaching and directing. She found yoga through dance after moving to Florida in 2011. Her first yoga love was hot yoga, but as she moved through her PhD Program at Florida State, she found that she needed a variety of styles to support her through that process. She also credits her yoga practice and RYT200 teacher training as a major part of her ability to complete her dissertation. She feels so lucky to be able to pursue research rooted in dance, embodiment, and digital landscapes, which is still the cornerstone of her research agenda although she has recently begun weaving mindfulness into her courses and writing. In 2016, Molly completed her PhD in Rhetoric and Composition and accepted a position at the University of North Georgia, Gainesville where she co-directs the Composition Program and teaches within the Writing and Publication Major in the English Department; her students call her Dr. Molly. She is a teacher at her core—teaching and doing the things she loves. For her, community is first and foremost, and she works to cultivate that sense in her UNG classroom and in her yoga classes. Most often, her flows focus upon the mind-body connection through the synchronicity of breath. Due to her experience teaching dance, Molly’s flows also play with moving balances and exploring what “the front” happens to be within the spaces of our mat. She believes that moving bodies with breath provides a sense of moving meditation and exploration.

Molly completed her 200 RYT through Yoga Den in Jacksonville, FL under the guidance of Alyson Foreacre in 2015 with dual certification in Mindbody and Sun Power Vinyasa, and she began her teaching journey with Brittani Whittington at Rising Om Yoga (formerly Hot Yoga Tallahassee) where she also completed her Aerial yoga training in 2016. In 2017, Molly was invited to provide a Mindfulness Workshop at the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the flagship conference of her field.
